What is Kundalini Yoga?
Kundalini Yoga is called the Yoga of Awareness. It is a dynamic, powerful tool that is designed to give you an experience of your soul.
In Kundalini Yoga we harness the mental, physical, and nervous energies of the body and put them under the domain of the will, which is the instrument of the soul. This technology precisely and consciously combines breath, mudra, eye-focus, mantra, body locks, and postures to balance the glandular system, strengthen the nervous system, expand lung capacity, and purify the blood. It brings balance to the body, mind, and soul.
"In Kundalini Yoga the most important thing is your experience. It goes right to your heart. No words can replace your experience. Your mind may accept the words or it may not, but your consciousness will not accept just words."
-Yogi Bhajan, The Aquarian Teacher Training manual, p. 20
Kundalini Yoga is not a religion. When we apply the technology of Kundalini Yoga to our bodies and minds, it has the effect of uplifting the spirit. It is for everyone. It is universal and nondenominational.
Kundalini Yoga is a yoga for householders, for people who have to cope with the daily challenges and stresses of holding jobs, raising families, and managing businesses. It is a path for everyone who wants the skills to cope successfully with the challenges of our times.
What Is Shamanism?
When asking this question, you will probably get as many answers as you have people. For me, shamanism is about the felt experience of being connected to all aspects of nature. When I reference the word nature, I am speaking to the full expression of all that it can represent. The human and more than human world, I speak to my own nature, and what I am or have been aligned with. I speak to the nature of being human, or what the primal human experience encompasses. I am recognizing the interconnected nature of all things as well as the natural world in all its wonder. It is the understanding that macro and micro are reflections of each other, and that we live within the understanding that the earth and our own bodies carry a living library that can be infinitely accessed for health and healing.
There are many traditions and lineages that use the word shamanism, the one thing they have in common is communication and interaction with the unseen world sometimes called the spirit world. It is the oldest way in which the human race has sought connection with Creation, or Spirit, or The Great Mystery. Shamanism is the path to knowledge which is gained through experience. Rituals, ceremonies, prayer and meditation, trials and tests can be used to experience uncommon realities in order to know contrast. It is the practice or discipline of interconnectedness and unlimited potential; which can create a total transformation of self.
